Six PT300 D:Mine machines help restore the safety of Ukraine’s territories

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) relies on FAE for humanitarian demining

After the February 2022 invasion, more than a quarter of Ukraine’s territory became contaminated with anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, as well as various types of unexploded ordnance (UXO). This has rendered large areas unsafe for both agricultural and civilian use. As a result, humanitarian demining has become one of the Ukrainian government’s key priorities.

Among the state agencies involved in mine action is the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU), which has been receiving FAE machines from the humanitarian demining range since the early 2020s.

FAE has supplied SESU with six PT300 D:Mine machines:

  • two units via FAE’s official dealer in Ukraine, Modern Trucks
  • four units directly through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

This important fleet has been established thanks to the contribution of the United Nations and the Italian Government through the Embassy of Italy in Kyiv. Today, the machines are actively deployed in some of the most heavily mined regions, including the Kherson and Kharkiv areas.

According to SESU operators, the PT300 D:Mine has demonstrated high efficiency and reliability across various types of terrain. Field specialists highlight several key advantages, for example the Operator Safety feature: the machine is fully remote-controlled, with an operating range of up to 500 meters, keeping personnel safely outside the danger zone.

SESU also appreciates the versatility and multi-functionality of the PT300 D:Mine. It can be equipped with different attachments depending on soil conditions and terrain characteristics. The tiller (300/TD/DM) has a working depth of up to 20 cm and effectively clears dense vegetation. It also mixes soil while neutralizing or destroying explosive threats. This tiller is praised by SESU operators for its high reliability and ease of maintenance.

The flail (300/FD/DM) has a chain-driven rotor with impact hammers designed to detonate or destroy mines through mechanical impact and is ideal for areas with high mine density.

The PT300 D:Mine has proven a superior mobility in difficult terrain. It has a low ground pressure (0.33 kg/cm²) thanks to the tracked undercarriage, and the ability to operate on swampy ground, uneven terrain and slopes of up to 45°.

SESU also highlighted structural strength and durability: the PT300 D:Mine is manufactured using high-strength Hardox and Weldox steels, providing excellent resistance to explosive shock loads.

As for advanced engineering and easy maintenance, SESU reports several operational advantages:

  • convenient access to service points and aggregates
  • automatic radiator cleaning system
  • additional compressor for cleaning components
  • fuel and coolant pre-heating system for cold conditions
  • electronically controlled hydrostatic transmission
  • automatic speed and working depth control systems
  • electric pump for hydraulic oil filling.

Moreover, in terms of fuel efficiency, these units have an average fuel consumption range of 24 to 40 L/h, depending on workload, temperature and soil type.

The PT300 D:Mine has been tested and certified in accordance with CWA 15044:2009, an international humanitarian demining standard.

Modern Trucks Sales Manager, Mr Korolyuk, also notes: “The PT300 D:Mine has proven to be extremely reliable and highly productive. The robustness and low maintenance requirements of the 300 TD head with tungsten-carbide-reinforced tools are particularly appreciated”.

“We provide SESU with original spare parts through FAE and receive fast support from the FAE Parts Service, allowing us to minimize downtime. After completing technical training in Italy, we are fully capable of providing high-quality on-site service and technical support.”

The PT300 D:Mine stands at the intersection of FAE’s engineering excellence, the field experience of SESU operators, and the technical support of the official FAE dealer in Ukraine - AVTEK Group / Modern Trucks.

This machine has become an effective and reliable solution for humanitarian demining, helping restore contaminated territories and enabling the safe return of land for civilian use.
