Travel into the heart of Iceland
IN THE NORTH-WEST OF THE COUNTRY, SEVERAL MULTITASK MACHINES FAE MTL 225 HELP LOCAL MUNICIPALITY TO MANAGE THE ISLAND'S ROADS.
Land of wild beauty, Iceland is visited every year by millions of visitors, who travel through the 1.300 km of Highway 1 to admire the beautiful volcanic landscapes, the famous geysers and the imposing glaciers that dominate the island’s skyline.
Highway 1 and the extensive network of white roads are vital connections not only for tourists, but also for residents and workers of local companies.
In order to maintain these roads, which are constantly deteriorated by the local climate, Vegagerdin (the public company responsible for all roads in Iceland) has chosen to rely on FAE machines, distributed in the country by Mr. Finnbogi Magnusson of the “Jotunn Velar Ehf” company.
Mr. Gunnar Thorvaldson, owner of the “Leichus Greta” company, personally manages the road maintenance work. Thanks to its FAE MTL 225 multi-purpose milling machines, it is able to maintain not only the asphalt on Highway 1 but also to stabilise unpaved gravel roads.
With an MTL 225 he recently worked on the 60-25 road near Reykholar, in the north-west of the island, recycling a section of 20 km with about 5 cm of asphalt and its subfloors, with stones up to 25 cm in diameter.
The MTL 225s have proven to be successful because they offer optimum performance on both unpaved and asphalted roads. Versatility, efficiency and ease of use: these are the features of these machines, thanks to which the roads of Iceland will be safely traveled in the future too!
